What We Believe

Like most Christians, Disciples of Christ at Glen Echo Christian Church believe that Jesus Christ is the son of the Living God who offers saving grace to all. We affirm that everyone is a child of God.
In addition, we practice open communion. The Lord's Supper is celebrated every week during worship. All who believe in Jesus Christ are welcome to participate.
We encourage freedom of belief. Disciples are called together around one essential point of faith: that Jesus Christ is Savior and Lord. People are free to follow their consciences guided by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, study and prayer. We are expected to extend that freedom to others.
We baptize by immersion. In baptism, the old self-centered life is set aside and a new life of trust in God begins. Although Disciples practice baptism by immersion, other baptismal traditions are accepted. It isn't necessary to be baptized again in order to join the church.
We believe that all Christians are called to be one in Christ, and we seek opportunities to witness, serve and worship with others.

Both ministers and lay people help to lead worship, service opportunities and spiritual growth. We encourage the ministry of all believers.
